The June 2004 Beer Olympics |
||||||||
The largest group of judges met on June 4th, 2004 for the 4th Beer Olympics. Our usual IOBC (International Olympic Beer Committee) event logistics staff (Jon & Asako Atherton) were on another event in Singapore and could not attend. Understudies Nick & Jess handled logistics as well as the 2003, 2002 and 2000 events.
This years' winner was the Belgian contestant Hoegaarden which did much better than previous years. Visit the previous years for testing results. Click here to scrutinise this year's test results. Debates ran high on various topics and some were partially recorded by BeerCam (broadband required). First there was the great myth killing debate raised by Judge Docherty - the Comparison of Albumin and Saline for Fluid Resuscitation followed by a more beer-centric debate around the design issues of the humble widget. Links supplied for the curious. This years' judges are captured in photographic glory below. Judges flew in from New Zealand and Sydney and consisted of Dr Owen Traynor, Mr Stephen Atherton, Dr Alan Cody, Mr Patrick Walsh, Mr John Babbage, Prof Zoltan Endre, Mr Michael Docherty, Mr Hank Szeto, Dr George Pang, Mr Rick Ernst, Mr Charlie Sutton and Mr John Zornig. The evening ended at 4 am after 21 beers were sampled & two movies viewed. |
