A Secret Scottish Wedding - June 25th, 2009

Site updated on 26 Jun 2009

A catch up with the children was the perfect opportunity to tie the knot. We hadn't seen the boys for close to a year. We had shared thoughts of marriage when we were in Scotland last year.... maybe it's the romantic mists, or perhaps the single malt. From our Caledonian base in Doune we were ferried across the waters of Lake Menteith to the magic of the 13th Century Inchmahome Priory. The island has a wonderfully romantic history including once providing a safe hiding place for a young Mary Queen of Scots. We were joined by celebrant Mary Wallace, her husband Frank, and Tom the Piper. The morning mists cleared away to bring a beautiful day.

A simple ceremony included heartfelt contributions from Nick, James and Olivia, "tying the knot" (with Wallce tartan), and drinking from a pewter quaich . Some of that is captured in a wee video we made for the party held back in Australia August 1st. We later spent the afternoon picnicing and exploring the wee island. A bonny day!
