AthoMan Tour- Egypt

Toward the end of the trip (photos dated) we spent 3 days in Egypt. Okay, so that's not long. We just wanted to get a taste of the place. And the taste? Well, What a great culture it WAS. That's not to say the splendors of Coptic Egypt, Islamic culture and third world sleeze didn't add up to an interesting experience.

Patience, the knowledge that everybody is after something, and a high tolerance level made this a fun stop-over. The shots around are what all the tourists come for. Ancient Egypt, in this case Giza. The guy below is probably as Bedouin as the Athomen are- just part of "the show".

We stayed at the Windsor which once upon a time was full of colonial splendor and was the British Officers club. Once upon a time. One of the guys working there is worth looking up if you want to be shielded from it all and use a guide (we did for half a day). Samir Fayek (below) can be contacted on 0123408139 or 5771285. The younger team members rode well (apart from one fall whilst galloping from Jim). Stephen was hopeless. Well, his horse was.
On the tour we saw the splendor of one of the better Mosques, the city of the dead and Giza. We also spent a day walking through Cairo and jumping on their Metro system. A stop in "Old Cairo" was interesting and reminded Stephen of his visit to Morocco a few decades back. Click here to see "Old Cairo" & other shots.
