Pushkar was one of our favoured towns. Only small, it is a holy city founded by the Lord Brahma. Indeed, the only temple to Brahma is situated in Pushkar. Filled with young and aging hippies (and more Israelis than the biggest kibutz around), it is a diverse and interesting place.

One is awoken by the sounds of prayer and song in the wee hours.

Our hotel (a retired palace- when India took away the Maharaja's powers, many opened their properties as hotels) had a grand view of the holy lake. Click here to hear the morning sounds and see the view.
