Mycenae is interesting. Nick was able to tell Stephen about one
of its' leaders (Agamemnon) because he had read some Homer. Indeed,
the only record of Mycean civilization was Homers' writings until
the mid-1800s when Heinrich Schiliemann found the site we visited.
Less sophisticated than the Acroplolis which is circa 500 BCE.
Mycenae declined around 1400BCE. Myth or not, there was a lot
to see of interest. Athomen Jim and Nick stormed the gates to
replay a few scenes from the "Iliad". |

Always the pacifist, Stephen instead walked through the Lions
Gates (possibly the insignia of the Royal House of Atreus) after
looking at the view at the gate and from the wall... |

Athomen braved the 999 steps and climbed the fortress to get an
idea of the "vibe" of the place. Wow. The fortresses aren't ancient
having been built in 1711 &1714 just in time for the Turks to
invade. We checked views & explored the fortress |

We used Napflio as home base for a couple of nights. The town
is filled with Venetian houses and is dominated by the Palamidi
Fortress. Bottom right we walked the narrow streets. |
