Paulie's Solo Mission en France

Site updated on 09 Jun 2013

18 days after getting back from Europe, Paulie went on a important solo mission back again to St Antonin Noble Val. We're getting more serious about acquiring a wee holiday house. We (Stephen remotely) firstly looked at an old pad that looks great, but doesn't click with our requirements. It certainly photographs better. The 2nd house is small (le petit bijoux), plain inside, but well made. That appeals to us (and Brit renters with large families will prefer farm houses with pool anyway). It might need render removed at some stage and those stairs need work. The amount of land is unusual for the town (the property takes up 4 lots!). A conservatory like in the B & B Paulie stayed at could work. Lino needs to be replaced with tiles.

Madam Turnbull has had a very busy social life- she met a chap over lunch whom she asked if he was an artist. After much laughter, turns out he is the commander of the local Gedarmerie. She's spent time and a lunch chatting with a Grandma who speaks no English who has taken her under her wing, gone to dinner with our hosts from our Gite in Larroque, met up with Albi Alan, and met various French and ex pat locals. Her French is certainly improving. She heads to stay with James in Oxford on the 9th for 3 days.

Paulie's B & B

The house we were initially keen on. Built in 1400s

Paulie visited twice

Big kitchen

downstairs great

Upstair roomy. BUT… maybe not for us

Off to dinner in Larroque , but a flat

Much simpler, but gets sun. House #2

Removing the render (Crepi en Francaise) would make it look more like this.

"Back Entrance" Large garden for here, smaller

In from back door door near garage

Street for front entrance

Entrance from the front- a park/playground area

At front, view to mountains at top of stairs- house 1 had minimal views

to garden from stairs

into wee lounge

and looking back again

Things are bigger than they look. Or Paulie has shrunk

Basic kitchen

..with WC off to one side

Up to 2 bedroooms

Which Robin and friend Carol check

light filled 1st bedroom

and simple, but new, bathroom

Meanwhile, back in Brisbane, the guys catch up with Paulie

New friend in the countryside

Dinner Friday night at the B&B

Saturday lunch with pal, grand-mère Madame Julienne

In the rain, house 2 after lunch
