March 19th, 2011- friends gathered at Chateau AthoTurnbull at the party Terry requested. Folks from different phases of her life came along and shared tales of her past. To jolt some memories, movies of Terry's life played on three "stations" around the veranda. After a piper played a few Irish tunes Stephen asked if anyone wanted to say a few words. Fujiko Chamberlain got up and broke the ice with a lovely tale of arrival in a new country and meeting a woman at a Japanese consulate party who changed her world. Fuji's years as a University lecturer showed- she spoke wonderfully of being introduced to people, and being taken to art galleries... and wild parties. Then up jumped Ghanaian pal Mac Okine. He spoke of meeting Jon Atherton on a train when Jon was a schoolboy and he a dentistry student. An introduction to Terry changed his life - he spoke of returning to Ghana but coming back to Australia primarily because of Terry and the doors she opened for him. Sandy spoke of the impact Terry made on her and how Terry dropped everything to attend her daughter's wedding in Indonesia. Touring with "an old lady" turned out to be an exciting and sometimes wild adventure. Finally Bogna Sussex spoke of meeting Terry in 2009 and being told she was "a bold girl" for carrying a red handbag. She always carries a red handbag now! Stephen recorded a bit of the night but edited out half an hour of "SporranCam" when he forgot to turn the camera off! |
