I guess I couldn't make a comparison without touching on the physical difference now that the Trade Towers are gone. Above left is the financial district on January 4th 2002. below it is the same area that Nick, Jim and I visited in January 2001. |

Above centre folks lined up to visit "ground zero". The line went for a couple of blocks- I wasn't keen on seeing a hole in the ground and thought it all a bit irreverant, but perhaps in helps heal a battered psyche? Centainly the level of patriotism- already a foreign concept to the Australian or English mentality- has risen. The shot of ground zero above and to the right shows an understandable display of stars and stripes. The damaged building is bandaged- enough to stop the bleeing? Below it is a typical street scene in Hoboken across from Manhattan. Flags on houses and cars. Windows hold "Proud to be American" posters. All a bit "over the top" for an Aussie.* |
