AthoMan World Tour- Greece |

Stephen had been to Athens as a kid but couldn't remember it at
all. Athens was fine although architecturally a disaster area.
The "hip areas" like the Plaka were interesting and the ruins
splendid.
To the right is the view from their Hotel Room (Hotel Phillipos)- an easy walk to the Acropolis. We spent 5 days in Greece and it was a great idea to go in Winter- there were few tourists. This page gives an insight into the days in Athens before we drove off (yes- through the madest drivers in the western world) in our rented Renault for 3 days. |

As mentioned, we drove off for a few days. We went to the Peloponnese to check on Mycenae, Epidaurus and Nafplio to give Nick some background for Ancient History in year 11. Click here to see these areas. A way cool VR of Epidaurus borrowed from elsewhere and done properly! | ||||||||||||
Jim checks some Roman stuff out from the hights of the Acropolis
above right.
Despite loosing much of it's architecture to various earthquakes, Athens has some hidded beauties. Here an old Greek Orthodox Church (look up Byzantine Empire if interested in its' origins) sits near the 1800's cathederal. Now, we do apologise for bandwidth issues if you are waiting on the image to the left to download (but we did warn you on our homepage!). I did a couple of "VRs" on the trip BUT did so without a tripod so, to be honest, they suck (and a few picts are stiched in which shouldn't be!) BUT the below does give an idea of what it looks like whilst on the Acropolis. QuickTime required for PCs and Macs. |
