Late on 31/1/21 The waters rise in the Bonnette. Despite being registered on the flood alert system, there is no alert from the Maire! The Bonnette flows into l'aveyron which in the end rose over 5 metres 1/2/21 - Brisbane time 5:31 am. Too late to get the car out or move furniture from the basement/La Cave View from Rue Droite
Much of the lower village is inundated The view from our neighbour Hans' - water enters the garage and basement And it kept rising. The Bonnette river which flows into l'aveyron back up the canal near us. .
The boulangerie 20 metres from us goes under . and within hours the basement and garage are under! The garden side of the house is now a lake - you can see the water line.
On February 2nd the rain stops and water subsides. The car went under and clearly everything in the garage did! . .
. . . our bikes should hose off OK
.. The basement/la cave. The fold down sofa had to go . Luckily the water stopped before getting to the ceiling
The shelf had to be thrown The trunk might clean up . .
The power went under. As did 2 heaters On the 2nd Feb, the Pompiers kicked into action and helped the village folk Pompier Pierre steered the car out of our garage to hose it down- diesel (gazol) from the submerged car, weed killer, and some chemicals had to be managed they said
Our house insurance, by Pacifica (care of Credit Agricole bank) may damage? . So the Swift waited outside whilst the garage was emptied and firehosed out. But it was not washed- it will be assessed by Groupama, the insurers.
. . . .
No good gone This had to go to the bin that the Pompier supplied The wall suffered but at least the ceiling (upstairs floor) escaped
Our wonderful gardener Cefus and partner Wendy took things that MIGHT be saved to their home Diesel stained garden umbrella Had to go Garden chair cushions to go
. . Electric tool. Gone Diesel stained. Gone
. . Stephen's hiking gear with first aid kit. Gone Sewing machine. Gone
. . . .
. Electrics and hot water were submerged. An electrician will deliver a report Although hosed a few times, there was still a diesel smell. This may fade Clean
Whether this survives is unknown The swift is pushed back in the garage for assessment . A now dead bettery trickle charger
Water remains here and in the boot which they couldn't open . The Pomier swept out mud but Michael, Cefus and Wendy washed the walls in la cave Good job dynamic trio
We note paint may an issue, 2 heaters submerged and the wood on the covering of plumbing looks damaged The crepé suffered from firhose pressure and being submerged . .
. As a previous shot shows, the garden went under The last thing the crew got to was the storage cupboard under the garden stairs .
. The electric mower has to go The following stuff went up to Cefus and Wendy's - contents of the suitcases Some with be thrown but some can be salvaged. Diesel and mud didn't get into the suitcases. Only water
The suitcases themselves are effected by chemical so have to go But dye runs when wet - so some clothes cannot be saved . No more comments - in teh case of this stuff, we just have to see what washes up OK and in teh case of books, whet dries OK
