An Atherton Wedding

It may have been Chinese New Year (year of the rat), Fête nationale Australie (Australia Day), and Burns Night, but the real focus of January 25th was Jon Atherton and Beatrice Benard's wedding! Music, comedians, an Egyptian caterer, and a Whian Whian witch all doing their thing in a remote country community hall. What more could one ask for when it comes to a country wedding? The Brisbane Athertons make a long weekend of it and do a little tour of the region.

The reason for a weekend away - the addition of a third Atherton bride
Brothers Chis and Stephen are joined by their lovely brides and stay in a farm cottage in Clunes
Some rainy weather, but a lovely vibe.
And just in time the guys arrived at the wedding in Whian Whian (which wasn't 10 minutes from Clunes it seems)
A traditional celebrant
And a friend who delivered a pagan cermony
.
And a celtic hand binding (Stephen & Paulie did this in Scotland)
And it was done and official... a new member of the family
.
A break for some nibbles and catch ups with friends
... and family
.

.
7:00pm - time to head back in for a hell of a show. INcluding the bride herself
Video - two tunes and then the dozens of musicians performed
.
They gave oout so much enery, it took the electricity grid down for the region! No power? No problem. Acoustic time
Video - And the feet got going and clearly generated power for the region.
After a lovely dinner care of an Egyption caterer, it's cake time.
Although the party continuted, by 11:00 the Brisbane Athertons headed to Clunes home base. A midnight wind down
Jan 26 - Up the next morning to the sounds of the waking farm.
Breakfast is served
And t's a slow relaxed day
Walks around the property
.
A lighter dinner
And watching the sun set
The team hit the toad on the Monday (a holiday). The guys found Hippy HQ, Nimbin, sad
But the country life generally? A nice pace- even had to stop for ...
cows and cowboys
Then a visit to a pal of the St Lucia Athertons.
Where they toured some of the 150 hectares
Holding on for dear life they drove through rainforest, creeks and pasture
.
Returning to the house a quick tour of the orchard...
You name it. They had it.
And finally before returning to Queensland and Brisbane, an arhitecture visit
Tamrookum Church in the middle of nowhere. Very different
