July saw COVID-19 bounce back in a second wave in Melbourne and indeed Queensland shut it's borders to the state of Victoria and New South Wales. Folks (alas, mostly from Logan near Brisabane broke rules and lied on paperwork about having been in Melbourne so we had a small rise in cases). But the Australian and UK based AthoTurnbulls were fine. Paulie and Stephen continued working for their client whilst living with the St Lucia Athertons. Nick was still working on his health in NSW and was uncontactable (he can receive mail and send it in early August). Olivia continued working at the Redcliffe hospital and James and Keno worked from home in Oxford with outings to shop, exercise, and fracture elbows. Both family homes (Brisbane and St Antonin) continued to be rented. The big news? Our lovely Canadian tenants had enough of Air Canada cancelling flights so booked a return trip on August 4th. Soon Paulie and Stephen get their own home after 7 months of being gypsies (they'll work out how to pay the mortgages at some stage)!

It's taken a few months but at last Chris and Stephen think they've stopped the pond leak Tony Donovan drops in "Uncle Steebie" helps with the St Lucia Atherton's babysitting duty. Eloise is a delight to care for & just turned 2
July 29 - Owen's birthday at the local Indonesian joint July 30 - Chris has prepared Moule (mussel) and frites. We wait eagerly July 31 - after putting it off for months, a parasol is delivered to La Cachette. It's hot and dry en SW France! Whilst at St Lucia Chris and Stephen look at their Uncle Henry's flight log from WWII which shows his early training included instruction from Flight Lieutenant Palmer. Interestingly...
Chris Atherton's flight log also includes an instructor "Palmer". Yep - the son of Henry's instructor (who checked his father's log book and it all fits) All that training and it was a mountain that killed Henry. You can see more information on Henry and other Atho ancestors in the "Ancestors" section in the "Photo Archive" of this website.
