Mama-san Fuji dies

Sept 22nd brought sad news of Fujiko Chamberlain's death. Fuiji was a close family friend since Stephen and Jon's primary school days. At the memorial Stephen and Paulie witnessed the other dimensions of her life - the Japanese sensai at UQ who by all accounts was a marvelous teacher; an institution in the Japanese community in Brisbane as a committee member of the Australia Japan Society for many decades; a cultural advisor to politicians who worked on Australia Japan relations well into her 80s. Ted spoke beautifully to the 100+ attendees at the memorial service of her wartime struggles in Japan and move to Hawaii and then Australia. Stephen sees her passing as the end of an era
